With children’s welfare in mind, foundation gift will aid child victims of sexual, physical abuse
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 10, 2016) – Family & Children’s Place has received a $4,000 grant from the William E. Barth Foundation to support the work of its Kosair Charities Child Advocacy Center (KCCAC) at Fifth and Kentucky streets in Old Louisville, and the Supervised Visitation Center at its Shively office.
The William E. Barth Foundation was established through the generosity of Louise Barth Laffan and Dorothy Barth Jockell, in honor of their brother, William E. Barth. Laffan and Jockell, teachers in the Jefferson County School System, exemplified a strong interest in the welfare of children throughout their lives, and grants are restricted to Louisville and Jefferson County.
Family & Children’s Place is the leading agency in the Greater Louisville area providing preventive and corrective solutions through six program areas – Child & Family Services, Child Advocacy Center, Family & School Services, Family Stabilization Program, HANDS and the PAL Initiative –to the complex issues surrounding children who have been witness or subject to violence, neglect and abuse.
The KCCAC provides compassionate, trauma-informed intervention, treatment and investigation of child sexual and physical abuse. The center houses therapists, forensic interviewers, the Crimes Against Children Unit of Louisville Metro Police, Child Protective Services, Commonwealth’s Attorney office and physicians from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, who work collaboratively to stop, investigate and prosecute child abuse and help child survivors and families heal.
Last year, KCCAC professionals stopped the trauma of sexual and physical abuse and provided compassionate and comprehensive care for more than 1,300 Louisville-area children.
The Supervised Visitation Center provides a safe place for visits and exchanges for children and families impacted by violence and for children removed from their home due to abuse and/or severe neglect.
