The Sun Shines Bright on the Rally to End Child Abuse

April 12, 2019

Family & Children’s Place President and CEO Pam Darnall and other friends and supporters gathered this past Wednesday to call citizens to commit to ending child abuse and neglect, in recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The rally also served to celebrate that for more than 135 years, Family & Children’s Place has led efforts in Louisville and Southern Indiana to prevent and stop child abuse, violence, exploitation, and neglect, and to help children and families fully recover and heal.

This year was the first for Family & Children’s Place hosting the rally on their Old Louisville Campus. Following the event, tours were given of the Kosair Charities Child Advocacy Center, which is collocated with the Crimes Against Children Unit of the Louisville Metro Police Department, Child Protective Services and a satellite office for the Commonwealth Attorney.

Joining Darnall to speak were Mayor Greg Fischer; state Sen. Julie Raque Adams; state Rep. Joni Jenkins; Director of the city’s Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods Rashaad Abdur-Rahman, Louisville Police Chief Steve Conrad, and Kentucky Youth Advocates Executive Director Terry Brooks.

“This rally is about celebrating the lives we have saved and demonstrating our commitment to the safety and well-being of children,” said Darnall.

This event precedes the agency’s Champions for Children fundraising breakfast at the Mellwood Arts Center on Wed., April 24, 2019.

Thanks to our speakers, and many partners, supporters, and friends who participated, including Bikers Against Child Abuse, ECHO, Volunteers of America, CASA, Maryhurst, Centerstone, Sunrise Children’s Services, St. Joseph Children’s Home, Kosair Charities and the Face It Movement, Peace Education Program, and others.
