Passing Away of Former Board Member Mike Kapfhammer
August 30, 2024
On Friday, August 23, 2024, FCP received news that longtime Board member Mike Kapfhammer passed away. We are devastated by his loss, but are very grateful for his years of service to our agency.
Mike served on the former Family Place Board beginning in 1999 until the merger in 2008 which created Family & Children’s Place. Mike was a tireless advocate for FCP both in fundraising and sharing the crucial mission with others. He joined me several times in Frankfort to testify before committees about the need for our services and never hesitated to ask what FCP needed.
While co-owner of Buckhead Mountain Grill in Jeffersonville, Mike often donated thousands of dollars raised by special events at the restaurant during Derby week. In addition Mike supported our annual Caper (huge silent and live auction event that lasted 30 years, and that included the U of L men’s basketball team) as well as supporting the campaign to build the downtown campus, and he and his wife Eva made significant gifts over the years to support FCP.
To honor and appreciate Mike, back in 2013 FCP planted a tree at our current (and then new) downtown campus, which has a plaque to honor and thank Mike for his support.
Mike was the epitome of a dedicated Board member, and we will miss him terribly.
