Final Message from CEO/President Pam Darnall

Thankful.

August 13, 2024

This past year, Family & Children’s Place celebrated our 140th anniversary in the community. During our 140-year history, we have changed names, office locations, staff, and so much more, but our commitment to creating happy, healthy children and families free from abuse never changed.

I also celebrated my final year as an employee at Family & Children’s Place. For 30 years, I was honored to have helped lead some incredible investments in the children and families in our community. This includes:

  • The implementation of Greater Louisville Head Start,
  • HANDS receiving additional funds to continue their services,
  • 21st Century learning grants for Kentucky and Indiana, Additional support for our supervised visitation services,
  • Our CAC receiving additional support and funds from the state (as well as getting our facility dog Emmie!),
  • National accreditation from the National Children’s Alliance for the CAC and the Council on Accreditation for FCP,
  • Our partnership with ImpactV Financial Services, and
  • A $2 million federal earmark grant from the Department of Justice that we share with three partner organizations.

There are countless other examples of investments our partners, donors, the government and more since I joined FCP back in 1994. Nelson Mandela said: “There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.” To all that have invested in our mission, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support has made it possible for FCP to serve so many children and families for 140 years.

As my time at FCP ends soon, I am proud of our work and how so much over the years has been dedicated to assure our mission continues. Sometimes change is difficult, but I am confident in our Board and our staff as FCP moves forward with a new CEO. I am excited about FCP’s future and new leadership, and your continued support is critical to ensure the services FCP provides will continue to help the children and families who need us.

Today, I am asking you to continue investing in the work being done at Family & Children’s Place, and I hope you will continue to support this incredible agency after I leave. I know I will.

PS: I want to thank everyone that came to the retirement party the staff at FCP hosted for me. It was wonderful to be in a room full of friends, donors, staff, community partners, and family!
