Family & Children’s Place named a highest rated charity

July 5, 2018

Family & Children’s Place adherence to accountability, transparency, and strong financial health have earned the child abuse prevention and healing agency a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator.

“This is our highest possible rating and indicates that your organization adheres to sector best practices and executes its mission in a financially efficient way,” Charity Navigator President and CEO Michael Thatcher wrote in a letter to the agency.

“Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that Family & Children’s Place exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work, and this exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Family & Children’s Place apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness,” wrote Thatcher.

Charity Navigator uses objective analysis to evaluate about 8,000 charities, grading them on a zero to four scale utilizing a number of metrics, including expenses for program costs, administration, and fundraising. Only the most fiscally responsible organizations receive a 4-star rating.

“We are very pleased to receive this recognition,” said Pam Darnall, president and CEO of Family & Children’s Place. “It’s an important rating that demonstrates our commitment to sound stewardship of the gifts that people, foundations, corporations, and institutions generously give us.”

The 4-star rating is the financial equivalent of the agency’s accreditation by the Council on Accreditation that demonstrates excellence in services and programs, said Darnall, adding that, “with this recognition, we have two leading organizations citing Family & Children’s Place for fiscal accountability and responsibility, as well as for exceptional service to children and families affected by abuse.”
