30th annual CAPER to benefit Family & Children’s Place

February 13, 2017

Silent, live auctions, Denny Crum Community Service Award anchor annual fundraiser

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 13, 2017) – Family & Children’s Place is preparing for its 30th annual CAPER, presented by Delta Dental of Kentucky, a fundraiser following the Feb. 18 Louisville Cardinals vs. Virginia Tech men’s basketball game.

CAPER kicks off at 3 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m. at the Galt House Hotel, a short walk from the YUM! Center.

This year’s CAPER includes live and silent auctions, fun, games and delicious tastings of food and desserts from local restaurants. Cardinal players and coaching staff often stop by to pose for photos with and sign autographs for attending fans.

“This 30th CAPER promises to be our biggest and best yet,” said Pam Darnall, president and CEO of Family & Children’s Place, the area’s leading child abuse prevention and treatment agency. “While it’s a great party, it’s also one of our most important fundraisers – to tackle a very serious subject – child abuse.

“Support from CAPER provides critical services such as counseling, supervised visitation, after school support, helping new parents raise healthy babies and prevention and intervention of child sexual abuse,” said Darnall.

Former U of L Coach Denny Crum and wife Susan are co-hosting CAPER and this year will present the second annual Denny Crum Community Service Award. Crum received the inaugural award last year.

“Coach Crum helped start CAPER,” said Darnall, “and has been a mainstay guest for us here for many years, so we are pleased to continue to honor his work and service with this namesake award.”

Andrew Chernoff, sports anchor/managing editor at cn2 Sport/KSTV, will emcee CAPER, which is presented by Delta Dental of Kentucky, and sponsored by Brown-Forman, Kindred Healthcare, Genscape and Humana.

CAPER will offer food and desserts from restaurants around town, including Drake’s, Comfy Cow, McAllister’s, Chuy’s, Famous Dave’s Barbecue, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Elm Catering,  and Mark’s Feed Store. There also will also be silent and live auctions, including sports memorabilia, a four-hour ride-along with Louisville Metro Police, four tickets to the UPS flight simulator, ticket packages to Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum.

Other items include a special wine tasting, a vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, a hot air balloon ride and other highly sought experiences.

General admission tickets are $40 and children 12 and under are free. Tickets are available here.
