Thanks for Rallying to End Abuse
April 2, 2015
More than 100 people – men, women and children – showed their commitment to protect our most vulnerable citizens – children – and to help them and their families recover from the trauma of abuse, violence and neglect.
A number of agencies working to protect and help children came out as well, including host agency Family & Children’s Place, partners Kentucky Youth Advocates and the Face It® Movement, as well as Home of the Innocents, Center for Women and Families and others.
Thanks, too, to speakers Pam Darnall, president and CEO of Family & Children’s Place; Sadiqa Reynolds, Louisville’s chief of community building; Capt. Steve Conrad, Louisville Metro Police Department; Jerry Ward, Kosair Charities board chair; and Terry Brooks, executive director of Kentucky Youth Advocates, who all shared powerful messages about child abuse in Greater Louisville and efforts to free children and families from violence and abuse.
Reynolds read aloud a proclamation by Louisville Mayor Greg Fisher declaring April Child Abuse Prevention Month in the city, and then presented the plaque to Darnall for display in the agency’s Old Louisville offices.
Following the rally, many who attended walked up the ramp to the Big Four Bridge, across and back to support efforts to help children and families hurt by abuse. Groups from Indiana also walked from the Indiana side, greeting those who started from Kentucky, to show their support as well.
It was a great turnout for a great cause. Together, we can – and will – stop, prevent and heal children and families impacted by the trauma of violence, abuse and neglect.
