The spirit of giving is strong in Greater Louisville, proven by the nearly $3 million donated to 362 community nonprofits during the 24-hour Give Local Louisville, hosted by the Community Foundation of Louisville (CFL). In all, there were 8,785 donations, providing for an average $338 gift. As one of the benefiting agencies, we would like to say thank you to CFL and its supporting partners – LG&E and KU Energy, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kentucky, Delta Dental of Kentucky; Sam Swope Auto Group; and a generous anonymous foundation. We also wish to thank the more than 40 who generously gave to Family & Children’s Place – more than $8,500 – to help children and families injured by trauma move from hurting to healing. We offer a special thanks to the Sam Swope Foundation, which donated an additional $1,000 to each participating nonprofit, demonstrating its commitment to community needs and concerns. Louisville is a giving community every day in every way, but Give Local Louisville proves the power

of collective giving, of blending accountability and entrepreneurship, pooling resources to stimulate philanthropy. In the buildup to GLL, participating agencies, their supporters, staff, boards and others energized through personal networking, social media and other channels to educate and inform about their causes and to leverage opportunity. That takes personal philanthropy to a new level, where individuals of all interests and wealth levels have an equal chance to improve outcomes.
