Test your bourbon taste buds and help kids

May 7, 2015

bourbonOn Tuesday, May 19, you can raise some spirits – the distilled kind and the emotional health and hope of abused children and their families – at the Family & Children’s Place free Bourbon Tasting Kickoff Event. Or just come for the company and chance to learn more about – and how you can support – the agency’s work. The tasting is free (though donations are welcome), fun and for a great cause – healthy, happy children and families, freed from abuse. But it’s only open to those aged 21 or older, and IDs will be checked! The tasting, from 7 to 9 p.m., will be at Velocity Indiana, 400 Missouri Ave., in Jeffersonville. This is just a taste of what’s to come as along with the chance to sample some outstanding bourbon brands, as an aficionado or as a competitor, attendees will have the chance to join a committee that will help plan an even larger bourbon tasting event the agency will host in the fall. To participate in the competition, organize a group of friends (up to five people) and bring along a favored bottle of bourbon (only one bottle is needed). Family & Children’s Place staff, ambassadors and volunteers will package the bourbons for the blind tasting, and participants will have the chance to vote for or rate their favorite. A bartender will oversee the tasting. Rating scores will be tallied and a winner declared, with each of the top three winning teams taking home a great prize! Nibbles – appetizers – will be available and you can register to participate or attend at www.famchildplace.org/bourbontaste. Come for the bourbon, the company and the cause – helping move child victims of violence and abuse and their families from hurting to healing.
