Parents Learn Cyber Safety

March 4, 2019

This past Tuesday, students and families attending Family & Children’s Place Healthy Family Nights had a special guest speaker – Sonja Grey with Exploited Children’s Help Organization (ECHO).

Ms. Grey came to speak with the parents about “Cyber Safety 101” while students engaged in physical activity. The conversation was focused on keeping your family safe when using the internet, and included topics on:

  • Netiquette
  • Not trusting people you meet online
  • Warning signs of internet luring
  • Sexting
  • Cyberbullying
  • Doxxing
  • Setting boundaries
  • Parental Control apps
  • Knowing and understanding your child’s apps
  • Net Lingo 101

Parents were happy to receive formal training because they felt it’s something everyone should be trained on – keeping your family safe.

Healthy Family Nights is a 10-part series hosted by Family & School Services for families that must apply to participate. Each session revolves around a specific topic and encourages engagement and discussion with all family members.
