This is not a statement about gun control, but about children. Family & Children’s Place regularly works with children who have experienced or witnessed violence and the recent massacre in Texas is not lost on us. No child should have to fear going to school. No parent should have to fear for their child’s safety in school. Safety in public spaces has become a luxury no longer enjoyed by the masses. Our new reality is sad and infuriating, frightening and dangerous. The families and children living in the aftermath of school shootings deserve so much more than what they are given, and it is time for everyone to demand change to protect the children in our communities. It will take all of us, working together, to create the world we want for our children.
