Nicole’s story

November 25, 2019

Today, Nicole’s outlook is profoundly different. It sounds so simple, but to new mothers like Nicole, stability, safety, and support is everything!

“Growing up was hard. I was sexually abused at 3 years old and my mom was a drug addict. Now I’m 26 years old, pregnant, homeless, and scared. I have trust issues and I’m leery of new people who say, “I want to help.” But I had to do something for the sake of my unborn baby.

“Through a referral, I decided to seek help from Family & Children’s Place. Their HANDS worker visited me while I was in and out of the hospital with pregnancy complications.

“After giving birth to my healthy baby boy, Elijah, we moved in with my aunt. I was truly grateful but I still had a lot of insecurities. Elijah was my first child and I knew nothing about being a mom. I didn’t have any transportation, so thankfully my HANDS worker came to my aunt’s house. I learned how to breastfeed and about “tummy time” and other activities that help me bond with Elijah.

“After months of work with my HANDS worker, I gained the confidence to start using public transportation. I’ve submitted several employment applications and paperwork for housing assistance. I can’t thank Family & Children’s Place enough. I finally feel like Elijah and I are going to be just fine.

Thank to wonderful people like you, we were able to help over 5,000 children and families last year. Families like Nicole and Elijah. But there is still more work to be done. More families to help.

Thanks to a generous Family & Children’s Place supporter, EVERY gift will be matched dollar for dollar, to help our children and families! That means if you give $50, it will become $100!

Please make your donation today. You can make a real, lasting impact in the lives of those still in need.
