Kosair Charities awards $75,000 to Family & Children’s Place

Grant will support work of Kosair Charities Child Advocacy Center, help stop child sexual abuse

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 9, 2015) – Family & Children’s Place has received a $75,000 gift from Kosair Charities to support work at its Kosair Charities Child Advocacy Center (KCCAC), which provides Metro Louisville with compassionate, coordinated intervention and investigation of child sexual abuse.

Kosair_90_Logo-header-v2“With every gift, Kosair Charities affirms its role as a champion of children,” said Pam Darnall, president and CEO of Family & Children’s Place, which protects and heals children and families injured by abuse. “We are grateful for the financial support that has provided vital program funding, capital support and event partnerships and look forward to helping more children and families through this latest gift.

In all, Kosair Charities has contributed more than $3.5 million to Family & Children’s Place, including a sizable gift toward the agency’s Fifth and Kentucky streets campus. This latest gift will be used to enhance forensic interview efforts and support operating costs of the KCCAC, the only facility of its kind in the region.

Co-located within the KCCAC is the Crimes Against Children Unit (CACU) of Louisville Metro Police, Child Protective Services, an Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney as well as physicians from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. The center also hosts Family & Children’s Place family advocates and counselors who provide crisis intervention and counseling at no cost to trauma-affected children and family.

This multi-disciplinary approach reduces stress for the child and caregivers and provides the family with one centralized location, as opposed to having to travel to multiple offices to share stories and information numerous times. Additionally, forensic interviews are recorded on digital video and shared with law enforcement, which uses the information to construct and prosecute the case against the alleged perpetrator.

“Since 2001, the KCCAC has served between 1,200 and 1,400 children annually, and last year the center stopped the trauma of sexual and physical abuse for more than 1,320 Louisville-area children,” said Darnall.

“Kosair Charities is aware of the impact the center and the agency make in the lives of children and their partnership is critical to our work to prevent child abuse from happening, treat victims when it does happen and heal children and families after the fact.”
