Hannah & Oliver’s Story
November 22, 2024
Hello,
My name is Hannah, and I am a former Family & Children’s Place client.
Family & Children’s Place helped me navigate the legal system while I worked to regain custody of my son, Oliver. Losing him was devastating, but I never gave up hope.
During this time, I worked a 3rd shift job, had no car, and relied on public transportation and ride-shares to make it to my supervised visits and court appearances. Both of these challenges made it hard for me to make daytime supervised visits and court appearances. I was exhausted, but I was determined to get Oliver back.
A big part of the visitation program is parents arriving on time and demonstrating positive parenting skills, both expectations I was determined to meet. It was exhausting, but my love for Oliver kept me going.
One of the hardest parts of the visitation program was leaving after every visit. I longed to bring Oliver home, and each time I said goodbye, it broke my heart. But I knew if I stayed committed, I would get him back. Slowly, those visits moved from an office to my home—a huge step forward.
Earlier this year, I graduated from the program, and in September, I gained full custody of Oliver. The Family & Children’s Place team, who had been with me every step of the way, was there at the courthouse to celebrate that incredible moment.
It’s because of the support from people like you that Family & Children’s Place was able to help me reunify with Oliver. With your help, more families can reunite through Family & Children’s Place. Will you make a gift by donating here today?
Sincerely,
Hannah & Oliver
