February, National Children’s Dental Health Month, is a wonderful time thank one of our keystone partners, Delta Dental of Kentucky, not only for its support of Family & Children’s Place, but for the important work it’s doing to improve oral health for children and families statewide.

For years, Delta Dental of Kentucky has supported our work with children and families hurt by abuse by providing oral health supplies such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss, to clients, by supporting events such as CAPER, and by participation on our Board of Directors, represented this year by Brian Krainer, director of sales for Delta Dental of Kentucky.

Delta Dental also is the presenting partner of this year’s Champions for Children fundraising breakfast, Wednesday, April 11, at the Mellwood Arts Center.

The recognition began as a local one-day event in Cleveland, in 1941, and in 1949, the American Dental Association held the first national observance of Children’s Dental Health Day on Feb. 8. The single day observance became a weeklong event in 1955, and in 1981, the program expanded nationwide.

The theme this years is, “Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth for a healthy smile.”
