Drug drop-off drive through a big success

December 11, 2015

Saturday’s drive-through drug toss event was a great success, with 41 vehicles dropping off 173 pounds of unused and expired medications.

The event, sponsored by the University of Louisville’s Building Resiliency in Campus and Community (BRICC) Coalition, the 7th Street Corridor PAL Coalition, and Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) ensures that the medications won’t lead to accidental poisonings or overdoses at home.

The drop-off also helps prevent prescription drug abuse, or improper disposal, such as flushing or pouring down the drain, which can contaminate water systems. More importantly, the safe and secure disposal prevents the drugs being stolen and sold on the streets, jeopardizing others.

Kudos to PAL, BRICC and LMPD for keeping unused, expired and unsafe drugs off the streets.
