Child’s letter to Jesus for help ends in abuser’s conviction

June 11, 2015

A little girl’s heartbreaking note to Jesus asking for help after suffering two years of sexual abuse was finally discovered tucked away in a Bible at the child’s Covington, Ky., elementary school — and has led to the conviction of her 37-year-old abuser – Eric Rivera.

A school worker found the letter in the Bible in October 2013, and notified police and others. Officers questioned the girl, who detailed the abuse, which began when she was six and lasted for two years, and told officers that he also had showed her pornographic images from magazines.

When officers searched Rivera’s home, they found the magazines exactly where the girl said they would be.

Rivera was arrested and charged on Oct. 15, 2013, and on May 28, 2015, he pleaded guilty to sodomy, sexual abuse and distribution of obscene matter to a minor.

Rivera faces up to 25 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced by the Kenton County Circuit Court on July 13.
