Carnival theme of 2017 HANDS summer picnic

July 17, 2017

The annual HANDS – Healthy Access Nurturing Development Services – picnic was another rousing success! The picnic, at George Rogers Clark Park off Poplar Level Road, was Friday, July 7, and 140 clients attended, representing 31 families.

The chosen theme for the picnic was a carnival, so the event featured games for the kids such as the cake walk, duck pond, bean bag toss, can toss, Plinko, and face painting. The Bubble Bug, a car that blows bubbles, was there, too, to provide lots of bubbles and water play, welcome due to the high heat of the sunny day.

Family & Children’s Place Ambassadors, young professionals who support and create awareness for the agencies within their personal and professional networks, helped shop for the food, and then helped prepare and serve the food to families.

All HANDS staff participated in and supported the picnic – working a game station or a food station, and there was a donation table with items for babies that families could choose to take home with them.

Judi Steilberg, HANDS director, offered special thanks to Dana Johnson for overseeing the event while she was on vacation, and said there “were lots of smiles to be seen and lots of fun had at this year’s summer carnival picnic.”
